Bridges, box culverts and headwalls are all poured concrete structures needed for water flow and water drainage. A culvert can be a box culvert or a bridge culvert. The culvert allows water to flow under a roadway or any other structure where water needs to flow underneath. A bridge culvert simply allows transportation traffic to walk over the water way while providing access for the water to flow freely underneath.
A headwall is a poured concrete structure that is found at the drainage outlet or culvert which functions as a retaining wall to reduce erosion and direct the flow of water.
